ACI now offers two separate Aggregate Base Testing Technician certifications, one based on ASTM methods and one on AASHTO methods. Both programs mirror the former certification structure but separate the content by testing standard, allowing candidates to pursue the certification that aligns with the methods governing their testing needs.

Candidates who earn one of the two certifications (each requiring a written + performance exam) can earn the other credential by simply taking its written examination within one year of earning their original credential.

Certification in the new programs is not automatically granted to those certified under the previous program; however, all existing certifications remain valid and fully supported by ACI until their expiration.

Students who have failed either the written or practical portion of the outgoing Aggregate Base Testing Technician during 2025, may retake the outgoing exam version if it falls within their one year retest timeframe. ACI will notify affected students directly.
